I have asked for access to a Portal for years and years. Recently my doctor’s health system switched to athenahealth and I finally got access to my data through their Portal. They have APIs that allow others to access and use the data—this is the “spigot” that [e-Patient] Dave talks about. We need to work with EHR companies to create such spigots. I’m not sure anyone but athenahealth has one.
It’s a very tedious work for patients to ask their clinicians to ask their IT to ask their vendors to create a spigot… Can we go directly to the EHRs first?
